The Wishtress (Book Review)

"At the drop of your next tear, you're cursed to die. Let your emotions never have release. let your heart feel eternal torture, robbed of relief. May you become as cold as the ice with which you snuffed out life."

Myrthe was born with the ability to turn her tears into wishes. But when a granted wish goes wrong, she is cursed. The next tear she sheds will kill her. She must travel to the well to break the curse before it can claim her life and before the king's militairen find her. To survive the journey, Myrthe must harden her heart to keep herself from shedding even a single tear.

This book is quite a unique book! many mysteries and plot twists. The character Mrythe is enjoyable. She's kind and sweet and a lot calmer than most modern MCs, and the perspective of some chapters changes to another character, Bastiaan. And I love Bastiaan. he has the power to stop time with the snap of his fingers. He's mysterious but respectful. He's smart and has a cool story that leaves you hungry for more with each chapter you read. His character is one of my favorites.

The Romance between the two characters is also really good. It's not too forced or annoying, and it's smart, sweet, and plays nicely. I love the forgiveness they have for one another and how they work together so well.

The world it's set in is also so unique! It's a Dutch culture, which I've never read about, and it's mixed with fantasy magic, creating this cool place that made the book a unique experience! The author plays into the story a Christian allegory, which was super cool and made the book so amazing. It gives you another perspective on how choosing Christ works, and she wrote it in a way that even if you aren't a Christian, the book is still very enjoyable.

Toward the end, it felt a bit rushed and left you wondering, but I loved it and definitely would recommend it.

    9/10 and recommended 14+
