Minecraft Story Mode (Review)

Minecraft Story Mode (Review)

In this episode series, you'll embark on a perilous journey across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond. Your decisions -what you say and do- drive the story around you, so choose wisely!

"Nothing built can last forever, and every ledgend no matter how great, fades with time."

Now, you might be thinking..."What is there to say about a Minecraft game?" or "What even IS Minecraft Story Mode?" And... there's a lot to say about this game. It's not like the Minecraft everyone knows of, where you survive starting with nothing, and if you don't know Minecraft Story Mode...I'm....I'm not surprised. It's a very underrated and discontinued game.

Now I say game, but this might as well be the Minecraft Movie... but 100 times better. The game was released on Netflix, and on playstation, PC, Xbox, etc. And I grew up playing this game without playing the actual Minecraft till after COVID! But since the game was taken off Netflix, we (my siblings) watched it on YouTube... yeah, sounds lame, but this game is basically a show, which is why I must review it because it is CINEMA.

"Who'd have thought it, huh? A bunch of small towners like us wrapped up in an adventure like this."

Okay, the story is about Jesse, a teenager (well, who I assume is one) who basically hangs out in a treehouse with his friends his whole life. Then they get all wrapped up in a crazy adventure to bring back the Order of the Stone: an old band of heroes who broke apart. And they do this to stop the threat facing their entire world: The Whither storm. It's an INSANE monster that's sucking up the world, following Jesse and his friends all over the world. They journey to the End, the Nether, the FAR LANDS, literally everywhere! This journey was awesome.

"Hey, if at first you don't succeed, then...uh...succeed later than originally planned."

The characters in this game are great! You won't play this game without loving them. There's humor that anyone can enjoy, and great connections. Depending on how you play can shape your friendships in this game too, and it's really cool to be able to drive the story like that! #DON' T BULLY LUCAS! Jesse is such a great main character, voiced by Patton Oswalt (the voice actor of Remy from Ratatouille). He's a hardcore friendship persona: real 'Dream work makes the team work' kind of guy. And, you can play the game as girl Jesse. They're basically the same, but I prefer male Jesse. And you can even choose their skin at the beginning of the game!

This game goes through so much, and the more you get into the series, the more emotion and depth are added. Each episode is a little over an hour long, so getting through the series does take a while, but it's totally worth it, and I've watched it so many times now. Hopefully one day I'll get to play it myself again...

The first season consists of five episodes, which tell a complete story. At the end of these episodes, the characters defeat the Wither Storm and become heroes. However, there's an episode with a new adventure, and then a cliffhanger that sets the stage for the rest of the journey. To continue the story, you can purchase additional content that includes episodes 6-8. These episodes follow the characters on their new adventure and how they get home. You can buy these extras separately or as part of a complete edition.

And the complete adventure is AMAZING! Wow. The new adventure they go on is so cool cause they travel through different portals to these crazy places! One leads them to a murder mystery mansion where they have to find a murderer and try to escape. The next leads them to an evil computer/AI trying to take over their world. And the last one is a tournament of games, where the winning team leaves, and the losing team stays and works in their quartz mines.  It's so entertaining and fun: I loved going through all these different worlds with the best characters: Jesse, Petra, Lucas, and Ivor. Yeah, unfortunately, Axle and Olivia don't come on this adventure.

"What everyman wants, A HOUSE DRIPPING WITH LAVA!"\

Overall, amazing game. If there's anything to dislike about this game, it may be just some minor quality details, but... It's Minecraft, and it's not really bad. Some episodes can be a little too long and maybe boring, but it's made up for with how awesome and packed the other ones are. The music in this game is SO GOOD! There are so many different vibes with the songs, yet still all holding that Minecraft Story Mode feel. I'd recommend 100%, and I think it's good for all ages! 10/10
